Michelin Star Manchester Restaurant Mana Occupied by Supporters of Animal Rebellion
On the 3/12/22, at just after 19:00, 16 supporters of Animal Rebellion entered ‘Mana’, a Michelin Star Restaurant in Manchester’s Ancoats district.
The smartly-dressed protesters occupied tables reserved for customers of the high-end venue that serves a set menu starting at £195 per person.
Animal Rebellion are calling for a plant-based food system and mass-rewilding.
The action coincides with a similar protest targeting Salt Bae’s London Steakhouse.
The group claims these actions will continue until the government takes meaningful action on the climate and ecological emergencies.
Chef Simon Martin’s Michelin Star Manchester Restaurant, Mana, has been disrupted by 16 supporters of Animal Rebellion. The high-end restaurant serves dinners starting at a price of £195 per person. The venue, which refuses to cater to vegans , has a meat-heavy menu including many of the foods with the largest carbon, and land-use, footprints .

Smartly-dressed supporters of Animal Rebellion can be seen occupying tables reserved for customers and holding ‘mock menus’ outlining the group’s core demands stylised as a starter, main, and desert.
The Manchester action mirrors a similar protest earlier this evening targeting Salt Bae’s London steakhouse that serves gold-plated steaks costing as much as £1,450 each .
Lewis, 29, an IT Engineer, said:
“These exclusive restaurants highlight a wider problem in our society. Whilst 2 million people are relying on food banks in the UK during this cost-of-living crisis, high-end restaurants are catering to a wealthy minority with meals worth hundreds of pounds.
These expensive meals are often delivered at the expense of exploited workers, animals, and our planet. Simon Martin himself has come under fire for poor treatment of his staff and cruelly decapitating live animals.
Instead of endorsing this broken system, we need to support farmers and fishing communities in a transition to a food system that works for us all. A plant-based food system that would feed more people using far less land, freeing up space for crucial rewilding to drawn-down carbon from the atmosphere and reverse biodiversity loss.”

Two weeks ago, Animal Rebellion targeted Gordon Ramsay’s 3 Michelin Star Restaurant in Chelsea with a similar protest . They claim the disruption to these high-end venues will end when the Government takes meaningful action on the climate and ecological emergencies.
These actions come as part of Animal Rebellion’s demands for a plant-based future, which were announced on Monday 23rd of May . The animal and climate justice group is urging wholesale governmental and societal support for farmers and fishing communities to transition to a plant-based food system and programme of rewilding that will secure a future for generations to come.
Animal Rebellion is a mass movement using nonviolent civil disobedience to call for a just, sustainable plant-based food system.
