Animal Rising Campaigner Guilty in “Public Nuisance” Dairy Blockade

ree
  • Daniel Juniper, 30, of Bristol, was found guilty of public nuisance today (13/05/25) at Worcester Crown Court after taking part in Animal Rising’s “Stop the Supply” Dairy Campaign in September 2022, in which Müller’s Droitwich site was blockaded by protestors [1].

  • He was sentenced to 140 hours of community service to be completed over 12 months and ordered to pay £900 in costs, plus a £114 victim surcharge.

  • The protest was part of a week of nationwide Animal Rising actions at Müller, Freshways, and Arla Foods’ dairy facilities, which saw dairy trucks immobilised and milk shortages on supermarket shelves [2] [3].

Campaigners took part in Animal Rising’s week of anti-dairy campaigning to generate a public discussion of the dairy industry’s role in the climate emergency. Animal Rising’s stance is that animal agriculture is an unsustainable food system if we are to avoid climate disaster, maintain food security and restore Britain’s depleted biodiversity.

This trial is the fifth of six trials covering the actions of Animal Rising campaigners at the Droitwich site.

Daniel Juniper, former nursery practitioner, commented:

“This campaign was never about obstruction or nuisance - we took action to protect the planet we all share. The dairy industry is a key driver of the climate crisis and the cause of untold suffering to millions of cows each year. If we want a livable future for all beings, we must challenge industries that profit from destruction.”

A 2023 study by Oxford University, backed up other previous studies, showed that a plant-based diet has the lowest impact on the environment in all areas analysed, including emissions, land-use, water-use and biodiversity loss [4].
